The division of surgery is one of 11 clinical divisions in the trust with a workforce of 595.  The division has 42 consultant surgeons employed directly.

The division provides a range of clinical services to the local population and, in some specialist procedures, the wider area.

We have four directorates within the Division consisting of General Surgery, Ear Nose and Throat (ENT), Urology and Ophthalmology.  General Surgery covers the subspecialties of Breast, Upper GI, Colorectal and Vascular.

As well as separate ENT and eye outpatient departments, we also have a main outpatient department, open Monday to Friday, which has 40 clinics run by high quality nursing staff.  This also includes various one-stop clinic ensuring patients receive all of their treatments at the same time in the same area.

The division has 129  plus 6 HDU beds at The James Cook University Hospital and 22 beds at the Friarage Hospital, with access to a further nine beds in the women’s health unit.
