Double honours for smokefree success

Staff at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust have picked up two awards for helping patients to quit smoking. The surgical pre-assessment team at The James Cook University Hospital and the trust’s maternity department received special recognition in the South Tees Stop Smoking Service 2018/19 Awards.

Trust to go completely smokefree

South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is going completely smokefree from Monday 1 April as part of a national drive to support more people to stub out the habit and reduce the many serious illnesses linked to smoking. Becoming a smokefree NHS is not just about stopping people from smoking on hospital sites. It’s about improving the health of staff and patients by identifying those who smoke and offering them practical support to quit.

Staff stop smoking clinics

Stop smoking support for staff has been launched as part of the Trust’s pledge to go smokefree by the end of March 2019. Provided by occupational health, the 12-week programme is designed to help staff stop smoking with the support of a qualified stop smoking advisor.
