The quality directorate at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is continuously monitoring standards to ensure we provide the highest level of patient care and patient safety.

Bereavement service

The bereavement service at The James Cook University Hospital offers support and advice to relatives and friends of people who have died in hospital.


The Caldicott review and data protection legislation enforce strict legal guidelines over the storage, maintenance and access to patient information.

Chaplaincy and spiritual care

South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust employs staff not only to help with physical needs, but also to help support patients, relatives, carers and staff with their spiritual needs.

The patient safety team is based at The James Cook University Hospital but offers a service across all sites.


Revalidation is the process by which licensed doctors are required to demonstrate on a regular basis that they are up to date and fit to practise. The trust is committed to ensuring that doctors remain fit to practise by ensuring its processes are robust to meet the requirements for revalidation.
