Why did you want to become a nurse?
I always knew I wanted to work with children but was mainly influenced by my mum who is also a paediatric nurse and found it very rewarding.
What are your day to day tasks?
- Working as a member of the multidisciplinary team
- Taking charge of a team of patients during each shift
- Providing care to sick children and their families or carers
- Safely admitting and discharging patients
- Observing and recording changes in a child’s signs and symptoms and intervening when appropriate
- Explaining treatment and procedures to enable parents or carers to consent to treatment
- Supporting, advising and educating patients and close relatives
- Participating in the administration of medication including Intravenous fluids and medication
- Assessing and managing children’s pain
- Evaluating for signs and symptoms of abuse and safeguarding concerns
- Assisting with tests procedures and evaluations
- Caring for patients with a range of medical conditions
Most fulfilling part of the job ?
I feel that the most fulfilling part of the job is seeing the sick children you have cared for go home safely and well when you have contributed to their recovery.
