Our Hospitals Charity, the fundraising arm of South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, wants as many people as possible in Tees Valley and North Yorkshire to get involved in the nation’s biggest tea break.
The NHS Big Tea, on Monday 5 July at 3pm, will thank NHS staff and volunteers for everything that they have done and continue to do while raising for our local hospitals.
Each event can be in person or virtual, with friends, family, neighbours or colleagues.
Those taking part are asked to show their support for our local NHS Hospitals by texting NHSTEA to 70560 to donate £5 (plus one standard rate message) and tagging five friends on social media and calling on them to do the same.
Or you can set up an online fundraising page so that anyone who can’t be there on the day can donate if they would like to. It is really easy to set up – just go to nhsbigtea.co.uk and follow the link or go to JustGiving and search for South Tees Hospitals Charity.
Head of Our Hospitals Charity Ben Murphy said: “We really hope everyone will come together for the NHS Big Tea. It’s an opportunity for us all to sit back, enjoy a cuppa, reflect on the last year and donate some money for our patients and staff. We would love for you to let your guests and us know how much you’ve raised by sharing a snap of it online, don’t forget to tag us on social media. Thank you so much for showing your love, gratitude and generosity – over tea.”
Ellie Orton, CEO of NHS Charities Together, which is behind the NHS Big Tea, said: “Many of us have a lot to be grateful to NHS staff and volunteers for following the year we have had.
“They have been at the forefront of the response to one of the biggest challenges our country has ever faced. NHS Big Tea is chance to show our support for them by joining a national outpouring of thanks this July. For many, this will be an outpouring of joy, celebrating the vaccine and all that it is allowing us to do again.
“For others, it will be an outpouring of thanks, for everything that our NHS champions have done for us. For some, sadly, it will be a moment of reflection for the loss of loved ones. Whatever the emotion, please join the nation’s biggest tea break to raise money for the incredible people in our NHS.”
Thanks to the support and generosity of the public over the last year, Our Hospitals Charity has been able to be there for NHS staff, to ensure they can continue with their vital life-saving work, whether through funding counselling and mental health support, or support with practical needs, like food, drink and a place to rest.
Thousands are expected to host events and NHS Charities Together has produced a pack to help those events go with a swing. To take part and get your pack please contact OurHospitalsCharity@nhs.net.
The role of Our Hospitals Charity is to enhance services, fund initiatives and improve patient care over and above what the NHS provides. The Charity supports the NHS in Middlesbrough, Redcar & Cleveland and Hambleton & Richmondshire.
