STAR scheme

The South Tees Access and Response (STAR) GP hubs have been set up by GPs to improve access to their services outside the current core hours for patients needing urgent care or advice.

Important changes to urgent care services across South Tees from 1 April 2017

From 1 April 2017, NHS South Tees Clinical Commissioning Group will introduce a number of changes to urgent care to make it easier and more convenient for patients living across Middlesbrough and Redcar and Cleveland to access GP appointments seven days a week.

Four extended hours GP centres will be open from 6pm to 9.30pm, Mondays to Fridays, and 8am to 9.30pm on weekends and Bank Holidays.

The service extends evening and weekend opening times for patients from 6.30pm to 9.30pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 8pm on weekends and bank holidays to ensure patients get the right care, first time through a single point of access.

Patients wanting to see a GP can access the service by ringing NHS 111 – the urgent care helpline. A GP will then call you back to offer advice or an appointment at a dedicated hub in Redcar Primary Care Hospital (for the Langbaurgh area) or Linthorpe Surgery (for the Middlesbrough area).

From 1 April 2017, the STAR service is changing which means patients will be able to access more GP appointments and further information is in the panel at the top of this page.

To find out more about this new service please visit the STAR scheme website.

Please note this is not a walk-in service.
