Return to practice nursing

Are you thinking of coming back to nursing?

Here at South Tees we actively support nurses who wish to return to practice and we try to offer opportunities in a variety of clinical environments.  Your skills and experience are invaluable and can make a real difference.

If you have had a break in service, or your registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) has lapsed you will need to meet all of the NMC requirements before you can be readmitted.

If you haven’t practised for the required hours, you’ll need to complete a return to practice course or complete a test of competence.

Return to practice nursing courses delivered by Teesside University

The Teesside University Return to Practice course is relevant for all lapsed Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) registrants.  The programme is essentially a period of updating your skills and knowledge, so that you can return to work in nursing.

For students living in England who meet the eligibility criteria, the course is funded by HEE so there are no fees to pay.  This also includes eligibility for a non means-tested bursary.

For any queries related to funding, please contact Paul Gibson (Return to Practice Coordinator) at paul.gibson@hee.nhs.uk or on 0191 275 4796.

If you would like more information about the programme please contact Kay Scott, senior lecturer at kay.scott@tees.ac.uk or on 01642 384953.

What to do next
