Speech & language therapy

The adult speech and language therapy team at South Tees is friendly and supportive and enjoys a wide range of clinical expertise with the trust hosting regional trauma and spinal centres as well as providing a service to sub-regional specialties in oncology, neurosciences and ENT.Speech and Language Therapists

This provides opportunities for working within a wide variety of different specialties, including stroke, neuro, neuro rehab, neuro oncology, head and neck, ENT and dysfluency. This can be in an acute and/or community setting, with a keen emphasis on inter-disciplinary team working with dietitians, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and neuro psychologists. Within stroke we provide six day working and there is an early supported discharge team, allowing patients to be discharged into their home environment but still receive daily rehabilitation.

There are excellent opportunities to begin or develop your speech and language therapy career at South Tees.  If you already have a first degree you could become a speech and language therapy assistant which may be a way of gaining experience prior to applying for the MSc course.

Newly qualified therapists will receive support to achieve their newly qualified competencies within their first year of working, in line with the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapy guidelines. Additionally, we can provide training to achieve competencies in adult acquired dysphagia, videofluoroscopy and tracheostomy. You can expect to receive regular supervision and be encouraged to take an active part in service improvement, in-service training, clinical governance and continuing professional development.
