The dietetic service

We are a team of dietitians, dietetic assistants and a specialist nutrition nurse. Our service provides nutrition and dietetic support for adults and children in hospital and in the community.

Nutrition and dietetics

We provide services to patients across The James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough, the Friarage Hospital, Northallerton, and communities across Middlesbrough, Redcar and Cleveland and Hambleton and Richmondshire.

Working as a dietitian within South Tees offers an excellent opportunity to gain experience in a broad range of specialities. The dietetic service works as an integral part of muliti-professional teams for the regional centres in oncology, nephrology , spinal cord injuries and the cardiothoracic unit.

We have an established programme of career development including rotational posts for Band 5 junior staff who work across the acute and community settings. These include opportunities to shadow senior dietitians to develop their skills and gain experience in specialist areas. The department provides preceptorship for newly qualified staff.

For all the team, continued professional development is actively encouraged in our service, with opportunities to attend in-service training, clinical updates, external clinical courses and opportunities to participate in audit and research. The dietetic assistants are an integral part of the dietetic team, their career development is supported with mentors and competency pack.
