The Friarage Hospital’s clinical decisions unit has been rated top of the class when it comes to treating patients safely and efficiently. The unit scored 100% across the board during a recent benchmark audit by the Society of Acute Medicine, making it the best performing in the country.

Cancer centre wins architectural award for outstanding community benefit

The new cancer centre at the Friarage Hospital has won the Community Benefit Award at the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) Yorkshire and Humber regional finals. The Sir Robert Ogden Macmillan Centre, a purpose built £10million building offers the very best in cancer care. Designed and developed to provide the best possible environment for those living with cancer.

South Tees health heroes to represent North East in NHS Parliamentary Awards

The NHS in the North East has today revealed the two entries it has chosen as part of ten regional champions for the prestigious NHS Parliamentary Awards, supported by Fuji Film to celebrate outstanding health and care staff helping patients as part of the NHS Long Term Plan. And The James Cook Thoracic Surgical Team has been name as one of the regional champions.

Implant will reduce radiotherapy side effects

The James Cook University Hospital has become the first NHS hospital in the North to offer a cutting-edge implant to prostate cancer patients which can reduce radiotherapy side effects by up to 70%. SpaceOAR® hydrogel is injected into the space between the prostate and the rectum before treatment to reduce radiation exposure and minimise damage to healthy tissue.

More than 28 musicians graced the stage at The Fabulosa Music Festival to raise £6,000 to help local cancer patients. The event was held in aid of the Trinity Holistic Centre at The James Cook University Hospital which provides complementary therapies and support to cancer patients.

The James Cook University Hospital is hosting a Radiotherapy Careers Open evening on Thursday 13 June 2019. The event takes place in the radiotherapy department, near the hospital’s north entrance, from 6pm to 8pm.

When South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust introduced its therapeutic care volunteer scheme in 2013 there were eight volunteers – today we have a growing community of more than 500! And this year sees the launch of our Therapeutic Support @ South Tees programme with all volunteers brought together under one team to help make a real difference to our patients and visitors.
