NHS heroes in the community

Community nursing teams have pulled out all the stops to ensure their most vulnerable patients get the care they need throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Teams have adapted their ways of working to keep patient visits to a minimum – whether it’s carrying out telephone consultations or teaching families basic wound care.

Second year students opt to work early

More than 150 second year students have opted to start work early, while completing their studies, to help South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust during the coronavirus pandemic. They have been employed by the trust as health care assistants (mid programme students) and will take on extended placements at The James Cook University Hospital, Friarage Hospital, Redcar Primary Care Hospital and East Cleveland Primary Care Hospital as paid members of staff.

The Governing Body of North Yorkshire Clinical Commissioning Group has made a decision on the future of urgent and emergency care at the Friarage Hospital in Northallerton. Following a temporary closure of the accident and emergency department in March 2019 due to there being insufficient staffing to deliver a safe service to patients, the CCG opened a formal consultation with the local population on 13 September 2019.
