After spending nine weeks in a hospital bed, Linda Buckworth is delighted to have her freedom back – and it’s all thanks to a special portable device that helps inflate her collapsed lung. The 37-year-old is excited to be heading home this week after becoming the first patient at The James Cook University Hospital – and one of the first in the country – to be discharged with a portable thoracic suction unit.

Redcar Urgent Treatment Centre will revert back to its usual opening times of 8am to 9.30pm from Tuesday 6 April. The urgent treatment centre (UTC) at Redcar Primary Care Hospital extended its opening hours to 11.30pm over the winter months to provide additional support to urgent care teams as part of South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust’s response to the coronavirus pandemic.
Patients suffering with longterm symptoms of coronavirus can now access a specialist service provided by South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The trust has set up a long COVID clinic to take referrals from GP practices and secondary care for people experiencing “brain fog”, anxiety, depression, breathlessness, fatigue and other debilitating symptoms.
