Victoria Ward at Friary Community Hospital has been shortlisted for hospital placement of the year in the Student Nursing Times Awards 2017.
Student placements on the ward at the Richmond hospital are supported by Teesside University and South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Victoria Ward has a predominately older person population who have complex health and social care needs, rehabilitation and dedicated end of life care beds.
Testimonies from its student nurses demonstrate that the environment is exceptionally supportive of not only learning needs but also identifying and minimizing anxieties.
End of placement evaluations show the ward has consistently achieved 100% student satisfaction for:
- Recommending the placement as a valuable learning experience
- Recommending the ward to friends and family if they needed similar care or treatment
- Feeling that the practice mentor had relevant and up to date information about the programme
One student said: “I have nothing but gratitude for each of the nursing staff I had the opportunity to
work alongside. I feel immensely proud that the NHS has wards such as Victoria.”
Mel Gannon, senior nurse practice placement facilitator said: “It is an honour to be shortlisted.”
Angela Artley, clinical matron added: “It’s absolutely brilliant.”
Now in their 6th year, the Student Nursing Times Awards are the only awards to celebrate the very best in student nurses and nurse education.
The award winners will be announced on 27 April at the London Hilton on Park Lane.
