Nightingales revealed ahead of International Nurses Day

Our nursing heroes have been unveiled ahead of International Nurses Day this Friday, after being honoured honoured at the 14th annual Nightingale Awards at Middlesbrough FC’s Riverside Stadium. Kelly Rowe’s exemplary service to paediatric care since 1996, and the many innovations she has introduced as a specialist diabetes nurse saw her named overall winner of the Nightingales, as well as the best Senior Nurse and winner of the Paediatric Award.

Farmer puts the bar in barn with night of live music

A North Yorkshire farmer is opening up his barn to members of the public for the seventh year running, to raise funds for Friends of The Friarage. The annual Barn That Rocks event has become a labour of love for Peter Fall, 70, and wife, Barbara, who now combine the daily chores that come with running the Grazingnook Farm, near Patrick Brompton, close to Bedale, with organising an annual musical extravaganza.

True diamonds – celebrating 60 years of Friends of the Friarage

In 1957 the Friends of the Friarage – then known as the League of Friends – were formed to ‘support the work of the Northallerton hospitals by means of voluntary assistance.’ Now in their 60th year, the Friends are celebrating their Diamond Jubilee having raised in excess of £5million for the Friarage Hospital and the local community.

Boro stars delight young patients at Christmas

Poorly children at The James Cook University Hospital were treated to a special Christmas surprise today, when a star-studded team of Middlesbrough Football Club players came to visit. Local lad Ben Gibson chatted to the young fans alongside teammate Adam Clayton, asking about their recovery and what they’d like for Christmas, before presenting generous gifts and sweets.
