Helping cancer patients get back on track

The HOPE programme is a seven-week self-management programme which is designed to provide extra support for patients when treatment is coming to an end or has finished. Further HOPE programmes are planned for June/July in Middlesbrough and Northallerton. Unwanted gifts needed

The Friarage hospital’s breast cancer support group is holding a “Pink Stall” in the Town Hall, Northallerton, on Saturday 27 April from 9am to 12noon as part of a Charities’ Fayre hosted by the Northallerton Rotary Club. People are being urged to help by donating cakes and any unwanted gifts.

Living with and beyond cancer

A special survivorship event will help support people affected by, living with and beyond cancer. Most of us know someone whose life has been affected by cancer. Patients, carers, family members and friends are invited to the market place event organised by South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Everyone is welcome to drop in to the Friarage Hospital in Northallerton’s recreation hall on Friday 26 April 2013, between 10am and 2pm. The event will bring cancer patients together to meet, share, learn and get more out of life.

Talk for cancer patients

Breast Cancer Support Northallerton will hold a talk on lymphoedema at the Friarage Hospital on Wednesday 17 April. The talk will take place in the hospital’s Scott Suite between 7pm and 9pm. New members are welcome to come along for a coffee and a chat and can bring along a friend or relative.

A new support group has been set up in Northallerton to help patients with myeloma – a type of cancer arising from plasma cells which are found in the bone marrow. With support and guidance from Myeloma UK, Macmillan, and the haematology nurse specialists at the Friarage and The James Cook University Hospital, the North Yorkshire Myeloma Support Group will support patients living with myeloma in North Yorkshire and the South Tees area.
