More than 500 people visited Middlesbrough FC’s Riverside Stadium on Sunday 29 May for a football tournament that raised almost £12,000 for two charities – The James Cook University Hospital’s renal unit and Islamic Relief, which helps displaced people in Syria.
Qasim Asghar, who took part in the day as well being one of the lead organisers of the event, chose the renal unit as one of the charities to support as it helped look after his late father.
He said the support from the renal unit prolonged his life and has given him the opportunity to share so many precious moments. The renal unit was given £3,430 and Islamic Relief UK received £8,322.
Thank you to Qasim, the players and their generous family and friends who supported the event and made it so successful.
