Sainsbury’s in Middlesbrough have chosen the holistic cancer care centre as their local charity.
Staff from the store are planning to raise money, awareness and support for the centre at The James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough which provides therapies, ranging from aromatherapy to acupuncture, to support cancer patients through their conventional cancer treatment.
Sainsbury’s local scheme gives customers and colleagues the chance to work together to support a local cause at the heart of the community and the holistic centre was the favourite chosen by the stores staff by far.
Staff from the Middlesbrough store’s family and friends have benefitted from using the centre – which they feel is the best kept secret in Middlesbrough – and they wanted to help as a thank you, and as a way of looking after them for the future.
Enthusiastic workers at Sainsbury’s now plan a series of fundraising events to raise £5,000 for the centre with activities including tombolas, book stalls, big runs, small walks, sky dives and much more.
To get the wheels rolling they are starting with a 75-mile cycle ride from Scarborough to Middle Warren on Thursday 5 September picking up colleagues from Sainsbury’s stores they visit on the way.
Part of a bigger Sainsbury’s event, the team will be arriving at the Middlesbrough store anytime from 12noon to 4pm where colleagues and friends will be cheering them on. Details http://www.justgiving.com/z5bigride.
Six staff will also be taking part in the Middlesbrough 10K run on Sunday 8 September to help with fundraising for the holistic centre.
Other events planned at the Middlesbrough store include:
- Friday 6 September – car wash 9am to 6pm – suggested donation £3
- Saturday 7 September – book stall
Suzi Campbell from South Tees Hospitals Charity said: “We are delighted Sainsbury’s have chosen us as their local charity. We know their support will be very beneficial to the holistic centre and its patients. We much appreciate generous customers and staff at Sainsbury’s help and am sure our partnership will be a great success.”
