Saving the pennies – supporting patients

Posted on in Fundraising

Local website company, Friends Saving Money (FSM), has launched a fundraising drive with a difference – to help people save money while they also help to improve patient care.

For every person using the savings and shopping site, FSM has pledged to make a donation to the South Tees Hospitals Charity with an initial target of £4,000.

The charity has agreed to test FSM’s new ‘comparison website of comparison sites’ which has been set up to encourage people to regularly review their household spending.

Charity fundraising manager Paul Watkins said: “What intrigued me about FSM’s campaign is it’s a little bit different. The early part of the year can be a struggle financially for many families but we aren’t asking them to put their hands in their pocket for us. FSM donates on their behalf so they don’t have to.”

“Basically if people are on-line either looking for cheaper house or car insurance, or perhaps wanting to switch gas/electricity suppliers, we’re asking them to use this site first, which will still find you good, cheap deals but also help the hospital charity in return.

“For those who like to buy online FSM also gives access to a range of trusted sites where visitors can enjoy shopping”

Anyone using the FSM site will be directed to the participating comparison or shopping sites via the company, so when they generate a quote, switch a supplier or make a purchase then the site that is used will pay FSM a referral fee.

The householder will obtain exactly the same deal as if they had gone directly to their chosen site. To access the site go to www.friendssavingmoney.com or visit their Facebook site.

FSM director Clive Teare added: “South Tees Hospitals are a vital part of the local community. My team and I have found a way to help people to donate without using any of their own cash. Overall supporters should save money while still donating.”

The South Tees Hospitals Charity covers The James Cook University Hospital and the Friarage Hospital as well as community services. All donations given are used to enhance patient care over and above the core services and facilities that the NHS provides.
