Priory Ward reopens after revamp

Patients are back on Priory Ward in Guisborough Primary Care Hospital, following a £60,000 revamp.

Priory wardThe work, which has been completed within the planned two and a half-week period, has improved the patient environment by replacing all the antiquated sinks and pipework on the ward block.

The ward had to be closed and patients transferred to neighbouring primary care hospitals, due to the amount of dust, noise and disruption to the water supply the work created.

Patients were moved to either the Carter Bequest Hospital in Middlesbrough or East Cleveland Primary Care Hospital in Brotton, depending on the patient’s condition and the treatment required.

The extent of the work also meant the urgent care centre at the hospital also needed to be temporarily closed, but it reopened on Monday 21 January and will be open Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm and weekends and bank holidays 8am to 8pm.

When the urgent care centre is closed, the other local alternatives are:

  • the urgent care centre at Redcar Primary Care Hospital (open 24 hours a day)
  • the local GP out-of-hours service – 0300 123 1851 (Mon-Fri 6.30pm- 8am and anytime weekends and bank holidays);
  • the NHS walk-in centre, Low Grange, Eston – 0300 123 0730 (8am – 8pm)

Mandy Headland, divisional manager for community services, said: “We are delighted to have Priory Ward open once again. The work has modernised the environment, helped reduce the risk of infection and enabled us to provide improved patient care.”
