FHN MRI 1 million 2 - Sept 2014Thanks a million

South Tees Hospitals Charity and the Friends of the Friarage Hospital’s ambitious appeal to raise £2million for a MRI scanner for patients across the Hambleton and Richmondshire area of North Yorkshire has reached the halfway mark with £1m in the bag.

This is fantastic news and a tribute to the hard work of local people, business, staff at the Northallerton hospital and everyone who has helped us reach this milestone, an important step on the way to the £2m target.

An MRI scanner is an essential piece of medical equipment used to investigate almost any part of the body. A scanner for the Friarage will be a valuable resource for medical teams and a welcome addition to the 7,000 patients from North Yorkshire who currently travel to have this procedure.

Over the course of its lifetime the scanner will undertake over 50,000 scans. It will diagnose thousands of long terms conditions including neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s and dementia. With one in three people receiving a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime the scanner will be a vital tool in the diagnosis and treatment of patients.

Paul Watkins, South Tees Charity’s head of fundraising, said: “We are delighted with how well the campaign is going and we are working hard with our charity partners, The Friends of the Friarage, on a final push to achieve our target.

“Public support is essential to make this a reality and to help ensure the Friarage remains at the forefront of patient care for the local population. We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has supported the campaign so far and contributed to its success.”
