Lynn Jolly and Paul Waugh popped in to Guisborough Primary Care Hospital’s Priory ward to hand over donations in appreciation for the staff’s kindness to Lynn’s late father and to friends of Paul.

Lynn, whose father Tom Brown passed away on the ward recently, handed over a cheque for £210 which were the proceeds from the collection at the funeral.

Lynn, who like her father has lived in the town all her life, said “The level of care on the ward was outstanding, not just for dad, but for me and my family. They were absolutely fabulous. It was just like coming home. They even gave me a cuddle during those low times. They gave fantastic individual care.”

Paul, who lives in Brotton, handed over £300 as a thank you to the staff for the care given to several of his friends who have been patients on the ward. He said “Nothing is too much trouble for them. They are so friendly and compassionate.”

Paul took part in several races including the Great North Run and not only gave a share to Priory ward, but also a further £250 to Ward 28 (stroke ward) at The James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough.

Another grateful couple, Mr and Mrs Cockerline, also donated ten tickets to see Calendar Girls at Middlesbrough Theatre. Five staff members were the lucky winners, each collecting a pair of tickets.

Ward sister Sharon Shelley added: “These donations are very much appreciated and I’d like to express the staff’s gratitude and thanks for the generosity. We are always looking to increase patient comforts and we are currently looking at purchasing some new stools.”
