Peace light arrives at James Cook

A peace light brought all the way from Bethlehem arrived at The James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough today. The candle was delivered to the Chapel of the Good Samaritan in the hospital where it will continue to burn until Epiphany on 6 January 2013.

Panto beamed to hospital wards

Children at The James Cook Hospital can enjoy a panto without even leaving their beds on Saturday. Newcastle Theatre Royal’s festive show, Aladdin, is set to be beamed for free to all 8,500 hospital bed TV screens in the region giving thousands of patients the chance to watch the show.

South Tees’ A&E survey delight

Staff in the accident and emergency departments at The James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough and their colleagues at the Friarage Hospital in Northallerton have today received a welcome boost. Results from the latest Care Quality Commission’s (CQC) survey on people’s experiences of accident and emergency services show the teams in a very favourable light.

Derek’s poignant trip to Uganda

Derek Toase has returned from a poignant trip to Uganda where he helped to build a home for orphaned and vulnerable children. The two-week expedition was a rewarding but emotional one for the father-of-three, as his late wife Margaret – a long-standing union member and former staffside chairman of South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust – was the person who signed him up!

Communications team scoop two awards

South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust’s communications team is celebrating after scooping two titles at the Association of Healthcare Communications and Marketing Awards 2012. Head of communications Amanda Marksby was named communicator of the year beating tough competition from NHS colleagues from right across the country.

Christmas celebration event

Families are invited to join in the festive fun at Redcar Primary Care Hospital’s Christmas charity event. The Christmas celebration takes place at the hospital in West Dyke Road, Redcar, on Friday 14 December from 5pm to 7pm and will feature real reindeer, a local school choir, the Salvation Army Band and Santa’s grotto.
