South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is joining a massive social media movement launched by a terminally ill doctor to boost compassionate care. The ‘Hello my name is…’ campaign was spearheaded by Dr Kate Granger, a young hospital consultant from Yorkshire who became frustrated with the number of staff who failed to introduce themselves to her when she was in hospital.

South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is looking for nominations for its annual Nightingale Awards which recognise the hard work and dedication of nursing and midwifery staff at The James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough, Friarage Hospital in Northallerton and local community hospitals and health services.
Patients and visitors are being urged to play their part in helping to reduce the spread of infection in hospitals during the busy winter period. Inevitably during the colder months, cases of flu, chest infections, winter vomiting and other bugs increase in the community which can, in turn, impact on the rate of infection in hospital. Now, South Tees staff are asking people to play their part in the battle to beat the bugs by ensuring they following simple infection control measures such as washing their hands if they’re in wards or clinics.
South Tees has joined the fight against flu this winter by launching a campaign to encourage all staff to be vaccinated. While frontline health workers will be given priority, everyone at the trust – including volunteers and students – will be encouraged to have the flu vaccine to ensure they are protected before the winter season.
South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is rolling out the Friends and Family test even further from this month (October) to include all outpatients and patients who have had a day case procedure. For the first time, patients receiving treatment in these two areas will also have the opportunity to feedback on their care by text or by responding to an automated telephone call to their home phone as part of a pilot scheme.
