This week staff at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust are gearing up for what they hope will be the perfect week in an ambitious drive to eliminate delays. The trust, which runs The James Cook University Hospital and the Friarage Hospital as well as a range of community services, launches its No Delays in 7 Days initiative tomorrow (Wednesday 11 October).

Norovirus – sharing isn’t always caring

South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is urging people with symptoms of norovirus not to visit hospitals to help prevent it from spreading. The condition, known as the winter vomiting bug, is the most common stomach bug in the UK, affecting people of all ages and is now beginning to circulate in the community.

Outbreaks of norovirus, which causes vomiting and/or diarrhoea, are common in busy places such as hospitals as the virus easily spreads from one person to another and can survive on surfaces for several days.

The transformation of South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has been recognised by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), which today upgraded the Trust’s rating from ‘Requires Improvement’ to ‘Good’, with several areas of outstanding practice identified.

Patients urged not to miss appointments

Health chiefs are urging patients not to miss hospital appointments after 67,500 were wasted last year at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The trust, which runs The James Cook University Hospital, Friarage Hospital and services at a number of community hospitals, had a “did not attend” (DNA) rate of 8% in the last financial year.
