Intrepid Darren Hodgson is really going that extra mile by running the ASICS Greater Manchester marathon in Trafford on Sunday 19 April 2015. Darren, 41, from Thirsk is taking on this mammoth challenge in memory of his dad – Tom Hodgson – who passed away at the Lambert Memorial Community Hospital in Thirsk, five years ago in May 2010.

Grateful patient Tina Reid has organised a sponsored walk to thank the dedicated staff on ward 14 for the amazing care and support she has received. Brave Tina, 52, from Stockton has ovarian cancer and she has been cared for on the ward at The James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough.

Bowel cancer support group

The bowel cancer support group at The James Cook University Hospital will meet at the Trinity Holistic Centre at the Middlesbrough hospital on Thursday 5 March.

Pancake race for MRI scanner

Pancake racers in North Yorkshire’s county town will be flipping for a fine local cause next week. The Shrove Tuesday contest will see staff from stores, businesses and other organisations across Northallerton come together and race to the finish line brandishing frying pans. Flipping a pancake all the way, runners will attempt to stay on a course on the town’s Applegarth playing fields at 11am on Tuesday, February 17. Money raised will go to the Friarage Hospital’s MRI Scanner Appeal.

Support group gets crafty

Linda Breckon will demonstrate various crafts at the next meeting of the Friarage Hospital’s breast cancer support group. The event takes place on Wednesday 18 February in the Scott Suite at the Northallerton hospital from 7pm to 9pm and new members are welcome to bring along a friend for an enjoyable evening with some audience participation.

Panto to be screened to patients

Newcastle Theatre Royal’s pantomime Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is going to be screened for free on Channel 34 on the bedside TVs in The James Cook University Hospital on Tuesday 23 December at 2pm, with repeat screenings at 4pm and 6pm.
