Patients undergoing surgery at the Friarage Hospital can now benefit from having the same nurse or operating department practitioner supporting them throughout their procedure. This means patients are with a familiar member of staff from the moment they go to sleep in the anaesthetic room to the moment they open their eyes in the recovery room.

Over the last 18 months, following public engagement, consultants at the Friarage have developed an innovative new model, to provide acute medical services in a small rural hospital. During this public engagement South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust stated its intent to go out to full public consultation on this model. However, the Trust has now been overtaken by events and needs to make some temporary changes to critical care services at the Friarage Hospital.

National recognition for outstanding contribution to patient care

The cardiac rhythm management service at the Friarage Hospital has been named Team of the Year at the Arrhythmia Alliance Excellence in Practice Awards. Presented at the annual four day Heart Rhythm Congress in Birmingham, the award recognises the service developments that have taken place within cardiac rhythm management at the Friarage over the last five years.

Hospital recognised as ‘Veteran Aware’ ahead of Armistice Centenary

As the nation marks the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War, South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has been accredited as ‘Veteran Aware’ today (Friday 9 November). This mark of distinction means that patients who have served in the UK armed forces will be cared for by frontline staff who have received training and education on their specific needs, such as mental health, and who can signpost them to local support services.
