Cancer team’s survey appeal

South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is appealing to patients to take part in the annual national cancer patient experience survey.

The survey, undertaken by Quality Health, looks at the quality of care provided by all 153 acute and specialist NHS trusts in England that provide adult acute cancer services.

MP praises innovative service at the Friarage

An innovative new service at the Friarage Hospital which allows emergency patients, who would usually have to stay in hospital, to be treated as outpatients – or even in their own homes – has been praised by its local MP. Richmond MP Rishi Sunak cited the ambulatory care and OHPAT (outpatient and home parenteral antimicrobial treatment) unit in Northallerton as a ‘shining example’ of providing care closer to home.

Dementia patients and carers being asked for feedback

Patients with dementia who have had a hip fracture and their carers are being asked to take part in a special workshop at The James Cook University Hospital as part of some research to assess pain.

Previous research has shown that dementia patients receiving treatment for a hip fracture may get a third of the amount of pain relief than those who don’t have the condition.

Friarage maternity centre’s first birthday

Midwives are throwing a very special first birthday party at the Friarage Hospital next Tuesday (6 October) – and you’re all invited! To celebrate the anniversary of the opening of the midwifery-led unit and maternity centre at the Northallerton hospital, women and babies who’ve used the services – and anyone who may use them in the future – are invited to drop-in for ‘tea and cake’ between 11am and 4pm.

Patients urged not to miss appointments

Health chiefs are urging patients not to miss hospital appointments after 67,500 were wasted last year at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The trust, which runs The James Cook University Hospital, Friarage Hospital and services at a number of community hospitals, had a “did not attend” (DNA) rate of 8% in the last financial year.
