A warm-hearted Grandad is set to become a social media sensation at the age of 85, after launching a new Twitter campaign in the final push to give The Friarage Hospital its own MRI scanner. Bill, a retired prison service worker and well-known, friendly face at The Friarage, has raised a massive £6,200 for the Northallerton hospital’s MRI Scanner appeal in less than a year, initially selling car raffle tickets, before going on to hold a regular tombola stall of his own.

A mum-of-two who discovered she had breast cancer thanks to a routine mammogram provided by her employer Marks & Spencer raised £4,200 for a charity close to her heart – with a little help from colleagues and customers of the same store. Karen Laskey, 54, of Ingleby Barwick, was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2014 and took the rest of the year off work from her job as a sales assistant as she fought the disease.

To be held on Tuesday 24 May 2016 from 11am to 2pm in the Yorkshire Suite, Golden Lion Hotel, High Street, Northallerton, the open day is a great opportunity for patients to meet with representatives from stoma manufacturers and view the most up to date products including support garments and underwear suitable for ostomy patients.
Adventurous students from Teesside University are taking on a mammoth challenge for The Golden Jubilee spinal cord injuries centre at The James Cook University Hospital. The intrepid students, aged between 20 and 35, are tackling the National Three Peaks Challenge – climbing the three highest peaks in England, Wales and Scotland – Ben Nevis (4,409 feet) Scafell Pike (3,209 feet) and Snowdon (3,560 feet) – in 24 hours on 24 to 25 May 2016.
Redcar mum Linsey Robinson is pulling on her running shoes for the IVF team at The James Cook University Hospital because without them her son Harvey would not be here. Linsey, 31, is set to take on the Edinburgh Marathon on Sunday 29 May to help support others who are undergoing IVF treatment at the Middlesbrough unit.
