Extending respiratory care services to reduce hospital admissions

Patients with breathing problems are being encouraged to attend specialist exercise classes to reduce the risk of them being admitted to hospital. Pulmonary rehabilitation classes have proven so popular that more are now being introduced at several venues across the South Tees area.

Monitor announces further action over infection rates

Plans are already in place to tackle infection at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust following today’s announcement that Monitor is taking further action to cut rates of Clostridium difficile. In 2014/2015 the trust reported 76 cases against a target of 49 and already a number of actions have been taken ahead of today’s announcement.

Trust welcomes publication of CQC report

South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust today welcomed the publication of the Care Quality Commission’s report following its inspection of the organisation in December 2014. The trust was given an overall rating of ‘requires improvement’ for providing safe and effective care although inspectors found services were caring, responsive and well led.

Do you have any hospital equipment?

Patients are being asked to return medical equipment and medical aids that they borrowed from South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, if they no longer require them. This reminder is aimed at those who may have been given crutches, a wheelchair, a nebuliser or any other piece of equipment when discharged from hospital and now, after recuperation and rehabilitation, they no longer require the items.

Centre of excellence for stroke rehab

Stroke rehabilitation services have been brought together under one roof to create a centre of excellence at Redcar Primary Care Hospital. The new specialist stroke unit brings together community inpatient stroke beds with specially trained nurses and rehabilitation services such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech and language therapy.

The Trinity Holistic Centre is holding two information days to encourage more volunteers to join its highly valued team. As a charitable service the centre relies heavily on its volunteers and following significant expansion it is looking to recruit to a number of roles covering The James Cook University Hospital, Redcar Primary Care Hospital and Friarage Hospital sites.
