Good turnout prompts Trust to add extra date in Thirsk – Building a sustainable future for the Friarage

An extra date has been added to a series of engagement events to discuss the development of a long term, sustainable plan for the Friarage Hospital.

Due to the popularity of the Thirsk event, which was held in the Golden Fleece Hotel on 15 November, South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has organised a further meeting in a bigger venue in the town so more people can come along to discuss the key challenges facing the hospital and share their views.

It will be held on Wednesday 20 December in Thirsk and Sowerby Town Hall from 4pm to 6pm and the format will be welcome and opening remarks by the Trust’s Medical Director of Planned Care David Chadwick, followed by a short video.

People will then be given the opportunity to take part in group table discussions with staff from the Trust.

To date, more than 400 people have attended a total of ten events that have been held across Hambleton and Richmondshire, including around 60 in Thirsk. The remaining event will be in Northallerton Town Hall on Thursday 14 December from 4pm to 6pm.

Cllr Gareth Dadd, who represents the Thirsk ward with Cllr Janet Watson, said: “After witnessing the very high turnout from Thirsk residents, we are delighted another engagement event has been organised.

“We urge all those that could not make the first to try and get to this additional one. It is in a more suitable venue and we thank the Trust for listening and reacting in this way.”

Recruitment difficulties are currently impacting on a number of service areas at our Northallerton hospital including critical care, overnight anaesthetic cover and accident and emergency and the purpose of these events is to gather feedback and thoughts on how the Trust can deliver safe and sustainable services in the long-term from the Friarage Hospital site, given our existing challenges.

If people cannot come along, there is also an opportunity to fill in an on-line survey
