South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is looking to recruit three new governors to help shape the future of its health services.
Being a Foundation Trust enables South Tees to give local residents and patients a bigger say in decisions about their hospitals and health services. People can show their support by signing up as members and those who want to can get more involved by providing feedback or standing as governors.
Governors provide an important link between the trust and the community; helping the trust to gather views from local people and feeding back to them what is happening. The job requires some time and commitment and an interest in the NHS and the key issues facing the trust.
Responsibilities include supporting the recruitment of members, attending Council of Governor meetings and advising the Board of Directors on a range of issues. Governors serve a term of three years after which they can be re-elected.
The trust – which runs The James Cook University Hospital, the Friarage Hospital and a range of community services – is looking to appoint new governors for the following seats:
- Middlesbrough – two seats
- Rest of England – one seat
Nominations must be received by 12 noon on Monday 14 October 2013.
Trust chairman Deborah Jenkins said: “We have now been an NHS Foundation Trust for more than four years and during that time the governors who represent our members have made a significant contribution to the development of the trust.
“Any member in each of the two constituencies can stand for election – all you need is a real interest in the trust and a little spare time to help influence the continued development of the trust and our important local services.
“If you are not already a member you can join for free at www.southtees.nhs.uk or call 01642 835616 to request a membership form.”
The elections, which are run by the Electoral Reform Services, will be a secret postal ballot and voting packs will be sent out to members on Tuesday 5 November 2013.
Members can only vote for governors who represent their constituency. The closing date for votes is Thursday 28 November 2013.
