About the Friarage
The Friarage is one of the smallest district general hospitals in the country, but forms an essential part of South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, providing an important and much-loved health service for the local community.
The trust is committed to delivering as many services as possible from the Northallerton site with recent developments including the introduction of lung cancer surgery, the opening of our MRI Scanner and the opening of The Sir Robert Ogden Macmillan Centre.
Friarage Hospital is within easy reach of Teesside from the North via the A19 or York is 50 minutes south. There’s also great train links to Northallerton centre which is a traditional market town.
North Yorkshire is England’s largest county with a wide diversity of scenery, attractions, historic towns and villages. It covers some of the most remote, rural areas in the country and access to services in these areas is a particular challenge.
Newcomers may be pleasantly surprised, not just at the idyllic locations in which you can live, but also at the variety of property available, from beautiful barn conversions and stone cottages to seafront and harbourside apartments.
Don’t just take our word for it
Charlotte Pybus, ward manager
“It’s a really friendly hospital. It’s very welcoming. We all work really well together as a team with the other wards.”
Janice McLafferty, clinical sister
“It’s a nice place to work because you feel like you know everybody.
“We get a lot of very poorly patients which can be quite challenging. The opportunities to progress your career here are really good.”
Nikki Barwick, bank staff nurse
“I like to come to the Friarage. I travel 45 minutes to do a shift here because it’s really nice. You walk down the corridor here and everyone smiles at you. This hospital serves a rural area and we see a lot of patients with longterm conditions, often people can be quite poorly before they present here.”
Sarah Holland, staff nurse
“It’s a really good place for learning, getting experience and progressing. You see lots of different patients so you have got to know a bit of everything.”
Tracy Rogers, HCA
“I drive in from Darlington every day but I would not dream of working anywhere else. I have been here 20 years and my colleagues are like family.”
