South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust operates closed circuit television (CCTV) surveillance at The James Cook University Hospital and Friarage Hospital.

CCTV surveillance:

  • helps prevent and detect crime against both people and property
  • assists in identifying, apprehending and prosecuting offenders relating to crime
  • ensures property belonging to the trust and its staff, visitors, patients and contractors is secure

CCTV at James Cook and the Friarage monitors areas such as car parks, public areas, reception areas and waiting rooms and consideration to staff and patient privacy is always given. Some security staff are now equipped with bodycams which will be activated for video and audio recording in the event of security incident.

Visually impaired people who are visiting the trust may not be aware that we operate a CCTV system. Staff must make sure that all visually impaired people are informed of this if they are attending an area where cameras are operating.
