
Daily supervision: Holistic centre staff
Accountability: Lead nurse therapeutic support, Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Centre’s business manager and head of complimentary therapies
Location: Trinity Holistic Centre, The James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough
Holistic centre therapeutic volunteers will:
- Welcome visitors, staff and patients to the centre
- Show visitors around the centre if required
- Offer and provide refreshments to all visitors of the holistic centre
- Engage with patients, families and visitors to provide therapeutic interaction
- Offer therapeutic contact that will provide comfort if appropriate
- Engage in therapeutic activities if appropriate. For example: playing cards, jigsaws, drawing etc
- Engage in general conversation and really listen
- Complete relevant documentation such as; Forget Me Not, friends and family and the completion of patient experience questionnaires
- Act as an ambassador for the holistic centre and the therapeutic support team and promote the service

Training requirements:
- Trust corporate training
- Therapeutic Support Programme – Volunteer Induction Training
- Donning and doffing of personal protective equipment (PPE)
There may also be opportunities for you to attend other training events hosted by the Macmillan Cancer Support Services.
Your commitment:
Your commitment to this role will be discussed on an individual basis. We ask that all volunteers commit to a minimum of two hours per week.
Communications:
The holistic centre and the therapeutic support programme team will provide you with any information updates, training opportunities and upcoming events on a regular basis.

- South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust staff
- All patients, carers and visitors at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

- NHS volunteer badge (provided)
