Aftercare/Hearing Aid Repairs

Hearing aid aftercare / repair services for existing South Tees hearing aid users

South Tees audiology department run open access clinics for hearing aid repairs, where no appointment is needed. Most clinics work using a number system where you can walk in, take a number and wait your turn, if attending The James Cook University Hospital please report to reception where we will check you in.

Please note we are only able to service hearing aids provided by South Tees audiology and are unable to see any patient from other areas or alternative providers.

What can we do during these clinics?

  • General maintenance and retubing of BTE (Behind The Ear) hearing aids
  • Aid troubleshooting and advice
  • Replacing of damaged or lost aids (See lost or damaged device information)
  • Basic part replacement – e.g. new battery drawer, new hook, new generic ear-piece etc
  • Basic programming e.g. preventing feedback (whistling from aid), adding loop programme etc
  • Re-instruction with aid controls or inserting/removing the device from the ear correctly
  • Impressions for new moulds if needed (children under 5 and patients with mastoid cavities need booked appointments, please ring 01642 854051 to arrange)
  • Modification of ear moulds/ITE (In The Ear) hearing aids – for best results and to prevent being without your ear mould/ITE please attend The James Cook University Hospital aftercare service.
  • Referral for reassessment or follow up if we feel you are eligible
  • Deliver ITE hearing aids to the lab for repair

If you have BTE hearing aids we recommend that you attend our aftercare clinic every four to six months for general maintenance e.g. replacement of tubing.

Before attending the aftercare clinic check our trouble shooting guide in case you can resolve the issue yourself.

These are all drop in clinics and an appointment is not needed.
