Drop In Chest X-ray

What is drop in chest x-ray?

Drop in chest x-ray is a new service in Middlesbrough and Redcar aimed at making it easier for people with signs and symptoms of lung problems to get the help and treatment they need early.

Who can receive this service?

Are you a smoker aged over 50?

Do you experience one or more of these symptoms?

  • Cough for more than 3 weeks
  • Chest pain for more than 3 weeks
  • Coughing up blood

If you answered yes to these questions then you can access the drop-in chest x-ray service.

It could save your life!

What to expect

  • You will be asked by a member of the x-ray department to complete a simple form.
  • You will then receive a chest x-ray if you have the relevant symptoms and meet the criteria for the drop in service.

If you do not meet the criteria but have any of the symptoms listed in this leaflet, you will be advised to make an appointment with your GP.

What happens after the x-ray?

If the x-ray shows something that is not normal, arrangements will be made for you to attend for a CT scan and see a specialist to look at this in more detail. If the x-ray results are normal but you still have symptoms, make an appointment to see your GP.
