Simon Brown of Middlesbrough was the first patient to have a gastric bypass at James Cook.
Simon weighed around 25 stone and was identified as having a high risk of diabetes among other health problems.
A strict diet before the procedure saw him lose two stone and he has lost a further two stone since having the gastric bypass in December. He said the weight should continue to steadily drop off until he reaches his target of 15 stone.
“I feel a lot healthier already and I have more energy,” he said. “I still feel hungry now like anyone else but when I sit down to eat a meal I can’t eat very much. It was all very straight forward and the care I received was outstanding.”
