Walking Group

A further series of walks have been arranged for trust staff, families and friends.

As usual, walks are all planned for the last Sunday in the month, and the start points and times are listed in the table below.

Everyone is welcome to come along – bring a packed lunch and wear walking boots/strong shoes.

27.01.19 10.00 am Piercebridge Meet in the car park beside The George at Piercebridge which lies at the junction of the B6275 & A67 to the west of Darlington DL2 3SW.  Visit the ruins of the Roman Bridge on clear farm tracks & lanes alongside the Tees and return via the quiet village of Manfield. 4.0
24.02.19 10.00 am East Rounton Meet at St Lawrence’s Church, East Rounton which is 7 miles south of Yarm via A19 DL6 2LB.  Bridleways, footpaths & quiet roads offer the chance to explore gently rolling countryside on either bank of the River Wiske. 5.0

Farndale Meet at Low Mill car park, Farndale YO62 7UY.  Hopefully, we’ll see wild daffodils beside the River Dove on the way to High Mill, then return along field paths and stone trods. 6.5
28.04.19 10.30 am Sandsend Meet in Sandsend car park (charge) at the bottom of Lythe Bank (A174) YO21 3TG.  This favourite walk goes through the tranquil woodland of the Mulgrave Estate; see two medieval castles; take a panoramic path above the valleys of Sandsend and East Row becks and return on the cliff-top Cleveland Way. 8.0
26.05.19 BANK HOL WEEKEND 10.30 am Aysgarth Falls Meet in the Yorkshire Dales National Park Centre car park (charge), Aysgarth Falls, which are just off the A684 between Leyburn and Hawes DL8 3TH.  Clear paths across fields & alongside the River Ure to Woodhall with numerous squeeze-stiles, then pass old lead mines & waterfalls to reach Carperby, a short distance from Aysgarth across fields and woodland. 6.5
30.06.19 10.30 am Aislaby Meet at the Church of St Margaret, Egton Road, Aislaby YO21. (Roadside parking).  Aislaby is two miles to the west of Whitby just south of the A171.  Walk through fields, wooded slopes and two more villages – Sleights and Ruswarp.  An old favourite, only this time walked in the opposite direction! 8
28.07.19 10.30 am Reeth Meet on The Green at Reeth, Swaledale (parking payment voluntary) DL11 6SW.  Fields & riverside paths, lanes & woodland through Grinton, Marrick & High Fremington. 5.5



TBC Leyburn Meet in the Railway Station, Harmby Road, Leyburn, Wensleydale DL8 5ET to take the train to Redmire.  (Train time to be confirmed later).  Walk back to Leyburn through field & woodland paths. 6.5
29.09.19 10.30 am Nunnington Meet at the footbridge at the north west corner of Nunnington village, Ryedale, which is 5.5 miles south of Helmsley via B1257 turning east after Oswaldkirk.  Mainly level field paths & tracks take us to Harome and back. 6.25

Osmotherley Meet at the Market Cross in the centre of Osmotherley DL6 3BA to walk along footpaths & bridleways via Oakdale Reservoirs & Chequers returning along the edge of Cod Beck Reservoir. 6.25
24.11.19 10.00 am Saltburn Choose your own car park and then meet at Saltburn Pier for a walk along Hunt Cliff, cutting inland across fields to climb up to Warsett Hill, returning to Saltburn via grassy/stony tracks. 5.0
