Conditions suitable for referral/triage to the musculoskeletal clinic:
- Peripheral joint and soft tissue conditions with no underlying neurological or inflammatory disease component
- Sports injury assessment, diagnosis and advice service
Hip – Pain, clicking with pain, early OA, impingement signs, groin pain/sprain. Iliotibial band problems, lateral hip pain, biomechanical issues.
Knee – Pain, swelling, clicking with pain, giving way, loss of function, altered gait, bursitis, degenerative menisci, early/moderate OA, gout, chondrocalcinosis.
Foot/ankle – Pain in ankle, heel, foot and toes e.g. plantar fasciitis, achilles tendinopathies, early/moderate OA, gait problems. Lower limb and foot pain which may have a biomechanical component.
Shoulder – Pain, limitation of movement, clicking with pain e.g. capsulitis, impingement, early/moderate OA, degenerative rotator cuff problems
Elbow – Pain eg tennis/golfers elbow, bursitis, early OA.
Hand/wrist – Pain eg de Quervains syndrome, trigger fingers/thumb, early/mild carpal tunnel, early/moderate OA.
Typical pathologies treated: Enthesiopathies, tendinopathies, bursitis, hypermobility, early/moderate OA.
Interventions in clinic may include: assessment, investigation, and diagnosis; management advice, joint/soft tissue injections, orthotics and onward referral.
