The pages within this section are written pieces provided by some of our cochlear implant recipients, detailing their experience of having a cochlear implant.
It is important to remember that every individual who is assessed for a cochlear implant has a different hearing history and set of circumstances.
Outcomes with a cochlear implant are different for everyone and everyone’s experience is different. The written pieces provided in the page navigation menu to the left of the screen (or the bottom of the screen if you are using a mobile device) aim to give an idea of some of our recipients’ experiences.
As part of every cochlear implant assessment one of our cochlear implant keyworkers will talk at length about what your specific expectations should be from a cochlear implant. They can also arrange for you to meet an existing cochlear implant user face to face; they will try to select someone with a similar hearing history to you.
If you already have a cochlear implant from the North East Cochlear Implant Programme and would like to share your experience on this website we would love to hear from you. Please send it to: JCUH.NECIP@nhs.net
