Direct admission protocols

So we can improve patient experience and how quickly you’re treated and seen in hospital, a number of agreed protocols have been put in place for people with specific injuries.

After being review and ‘signed off’ by the emergency department consultant, orthopaedic patients may be ‘fast-tracked’ to the trauma ward once appropriate splintage, analgesia and anti-emetic (a drug that is effective against vomiting and nausea) are prescribed.

The on-call orthopaedic junior doctor will be made aware of the patients admission by the ward staff on the trauma ward.

This protocol applies to the following injuries:

Ankle fracture

Forearm fracture

Tibial fracture
