Description: Voltage gated potassium channel (VGKC) antibodies are found in some cases of acquired neuromyotonia.
Indication: Acute or subacute symtoms of non-paraneoplastic limbic encephalitis including confusion/dementia, depression/anxiety and or seizures or hallucinations. Found in some cases of acquired neuromyotonia and Morvans syndrome.
Assay Details: Radioimmunassay antibodies block binding of radiolabelled a-dendrotoxin to membrane receptor preparations.
Restrictions: Referred test: only available to Neurology staff.
Reference Range: <100pM
Assay Range Notes: Results expressed as pM of bound toxin. Values above 200pM are considered as\ positive Under 100 pM are negative.
