Originally the League of Friends, the charity was established in 1957 to support the hospital, and its patients, staff and visitors, by volunteering and raising funds to supplement the services provided by the NHS. More than 60 years later our aims are unchanged.
The aim of the Friends of the Friarage is to support the work of the Friarage Hospital and the health centres of Hambleton and Richmondshire in providing the best possible healthcare to every patient, above the standards that NHS funding alone allows. We achieve this through fundraising, charitable donations, legacies and voluntary support. Unlike many other charities, we do not have paid fundraisers.
Thanks to fundraising activities, charitable donations and legacies, we are able to purchase state-of-the-art medical equipment, update the hospital environment and support the development of innovative services that impact on quality of care and patient experience. We also provide smaller items, such as Christmas presents for patients who have the misfortune to be in hospital over that period.
Thanks to our committed volunteers, we provide around 5,500 hours of service every year with the Friarage Hospital Shop, Hospital Trolley Service and Outpatients Escort Service.
