Meet and greet volunteer role description

Daily supervision:  Therapeutic support programme team office

Accountability:  Lead nurse therapeutic support and therapeutic support programme team

Location:  The James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough

Aim:  Meet and greet and mask distribution volunteers are responsible for ensuring that face masks and hand gel are available for all patients visiting the hospital.

Meet and greet and mask distribution volunteers will:

  • Be responsible for ensuring that face masks, hand gel etc are available for all patients visiting the hospital by collecting them from the Therapeutic Care Office and requesting more as required.
  • Greet patients entering the hospital and provide gel and a face mask to each individual.
  • Offer support to patients requiring directions to departments and wards.
  • Advise patients regarding the removal of masks at the end of the patient’s appointment. Masks removed on exit or worn home and disposed of in a sealed bag.
  • Help to provide an efficient service for staff and patients within The James Cook University Hospital.
  • Join a group of volunteers working a ‘timetable’ rota to ensure that the service is covered during the required times.
  • Ensure safe disposal of used masks at the end of the day by placing in the nearest waste disposals point.

  • Donning and doffing of personal protective equipment (PPE)

Your commitment:

Your commitment to this role will be discussed on an individual basis. We ask that volunteers commit to a number of hours that are convenient for them within the runner service hours (7.50am to 7pm). Any time that can be given will be greatly appreciated.

Support and supervision:

Your first line of support and for any enquiries will be the Therapeutic Support Programme Team based in the Charitable Funds Office, Opposite Costa Coffee, James cook University Hospital.

Communications:

The therapeutic support programme team will provide you with any information updates, training opportunities and upcoming events on a regular basis.

  • Burgundy NHS volunteer polo shirt (provided)
  • NHS volunteer badge (provided)
  • Black trousers
  • Black shoes
