STart - Staff art competition 2021

Art competition banner

To celebrate International Women’s Day, South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has set up an art competition for all trust staff past and present.

This competition is only open to trust staff past and present. We are unable to accept entries from members of the public.

James Cook sculpture – Michael Parekowhai’s The English Channel

Many of our staff have already been winning awards in the pandemic for photographs and paintings, so we know we have a lot of talent out there!

Your entry should be celebrating something about women or inspired by women or anything linked to the women in our lives, particularly over this difficult time.

We use the word “art” loosely. We would love to see your creative side. You can send a painting or photograph with women in mind such as flowers, food, nature, local landmarks. You can enter images of sculpture, textiles, ceramics, drawings or sketches, even a soft toy. Please send us a little background information with your entry to look at and think about.

There will be a £100 prize for best entry judged by artists including an accomplished local artist Mackenzie Thorpe, who designed the trust’s “People Medal”, along with local contemporary artist Sarah Cooney and professional fine art painter, Julia Borodina, originally from Tobolsk in Western Siberia, Russia, but now based in the North. Joe Cornish will be helping to assess the photographic entries.

Mackenzie Thorpe prizes

There’s a prize for the people’s choice and you can sell your artwork too. We will also be exhibiting the best entries at James Cook and Friarage hospitals. We would also love any donations to our charity South Tees Hospitals Charity.

We also have some fantastic prizes donated by Mackenzie including a signed Roseberry Topping poster, two books (Out of the Shadows and Paintings from the Kitchen Table) and a tote bag. And there’s lots of other top prizes to be won too.

Closing date extended by popular demand to Friday 14 May 2021. Winners will be announced on Friday 21 May.

We look forward to seeing your entry over the next few weeks. So get creative!
