University Hospitals Tees is celebrating after winning a prestigious national award.
The digital programme team was named ‘Digital Transformation Organisation of the Year’ at Tuesday’s (19 May 2026) Health Service Journal (HSJ) Digital Awards ceremony.
The award recognises an extensive, clinically led programme that has transformed South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust from paper-based records to a fully electronic system.
This has delivered significant benefits for patient safety, including more time for direct care, improved clinical decision-making, and substantial cost savings.

Lindsay Garcia, director of nursing, said: “We’re absolutely delighted to have our digital transformation recognised by the HSJ. This achievement reflects the dedication, highly engaged, skill and collaboration of our teams in delivering large-scale digital transformation for the benefit of our patients.
“By advancing our digital systems, we’re enabling clinicians to make faster, safer decisions through better access to data, streamlined pathways and enhanced diagnostics.
“Our digital and clinical teams work side-by-side to reduce administrative burden and improve safety, ultimately freeing up more time for patient care. It’s a true partnership between clinical and digital expertise, all focused on delivering the best possible outcomes for our patients.
“Achieving this award is not about technology alone, it is reflective of multi professional teamwork, the correct culture, collaboration across disciplines and a willingness and drive to improve patient care.
“While it’s fantastic to win an award, our priority remains the same – continuing to use digital innovation to improve the care we deliver to our patients every day.”
