Young artists from a primary school in Guisborough are bringing cheer and a great big splash of colour to its local primary care hospital, with the help of the arts council at University Hospitals Tees.
The heart-warming initiative will see artwork created by nursery students from Chaloner Primary School adorn the walls of Guisborough Primary Care Hospital – helping to brighten the day for local patients attending their appointments.
The project began when teacher Miss Burrows got in touch with The James Cook University Hospital, hoping to share the children’s’ creations and their idea to share their artwork with patients.
The organisation’s arts council then worked with NHS Property Services, who own the building, to display the children’s artwork indefinitely.
‘Community spirit’
Dr Jean MacLeod, chair of University Hospitals Tees’ arts council, visited the nursery at Chaloner Primary School in May to personally thank the children for their thoughtful contribution.
Jean said: “It was a pleasure to meet the children and to see their enthusiasm and creativity first hand. Their artwork will undoubtedly bring comfort and smiles to many people attending the hospital.
This project is a wonderful example of community spirit and the positive impact even the youngest members of our community can have."
Spreading joy
During the visit, Dr MacLeod spoke to the children about hospitals and the important roles played by doctors and nurses in caring for people in the community.
She also joined in with the children’s nursery rhymes, making the occasion both educational and enjoyable.
The drawings are now being prepared and will be showcased on notice boards throughout the hospital, helping to create a more welcoming and uplifting environment for patients, visitors and staff alike.
Jean added: “The arts council would like to extend its sincere thanks to the children of Chaloner Primary School and their teacher Miss Burrows.
“We’d also like to thank NHS Property Services for their support in bringing this initiative to life.”
