With a reputation for excellence which attracts consultants who are leaders in their fields including orthopaedics, general surgery, anaesthesia, gynaecology, oral and maxillofacial surgery, ophthalmology, pain management, plastic surgery, spinal surgery, urology and ear nose and throat, our patients’ needs are at the heart of the Friarage Surgical Centre.
The Friarage stands in the heart of Northallerton – a thriving and bustling North Yorkshire market town. Located just four miles from the A19 and six miles from the A1(M) the hospital is readily accessible by road.
Our friendly hospital offers virtual consultations and is at the forefront of research and innovation, with strong links to The James Cook University Hospital – one of the country’s flagship NHS centres for highly specialised care.
"All the staff were friendly. I felt like a person and not a number."

New £35.5million surgical centre
As part of our clinically-led commitment to invest in the needs of our surgical patients for years to come, our new multi-million-pound surgical centre opened at the Friarage in June 2025.
An official opening ceremony was then held in July 2025. Public health and prevention minister Ashley Dalton, MP Rishi Sunak and 80-year-old scrub nurse Anne Lamb had the honour of cutting the ribbon
