£4m redevelopment for Guisborough Hospital site

The local NHS has confirmed the £4 million redevelopment of a new primary care centre on the Guisborough Hospital site.

The former Priory ward building will be completely redeveloped as part of the plans, with the current building stripped to its shell and completely rebuilt to provide a modern, health care environment for local people.

Existing community and outpatient clinics will continue to be provided in the new-look centre, while additional space will be created for more services to be provided from the site in the future.

Priory Ward closes but clinics open as usual

Patients are reminded that all clinics at Guisborough Hospital continue to operate from the site as usual following the closure of Priory Ward.

The ward closure, announced following formal consultation by South Tees Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) in 2014, saw the hospital’s inpatient service transfer its remaining beds to East Cleveland Primary Care Hospital in Brotton on 14 April 2016.

All outpatient services remain at Guisborough Hospital.

Celebrating over 60 years of Priory Ward

Priory Ward staff past and present got together to share memories of their time on the ward at a special celebration event. Staff shared stories dating back to the hospital’s time as a workhouse. They also marked the occasion with cup cakes, a memory lane video and a final team photo.
