Choosing a career can feel overwhelming, especially when you're not sure what options are available or where to start. This event gives people the chance to have honest conversations with staff who have been in their shoes and can share their own career journeys.
“The NHS needs people with all kinds of skills, interests and backgrounds, and this is a great opportunity to ask questions, make connections and find out where a career in healthcare could take you.”

Meet the stallholders
Tyla Colf, trainee clinical scientist in haematology and transfusion
At 30 years old, Tyla Colf is helping to diagnose blood disorders and support the blood transfusion services that patients rely on every day. Her route into healthcare science demonstrates that there is more than one pathway into an NHS career.
Now working as a trainee clinical scientist, Tyla enjoys the continuous learning that comes with working in an ever-evolving field.
She explains: “The scientific field is always evolving so you have to be on your toes all the time. For someone like me who loves learning, being able to implement that in my day-to-day job is fantastic.”
Attendees will be able to learn more about careers in healthcare science, alternative routes into the NHS and the vital role laboratory teams play in patient care.
Bradley Stokes, facilities service lead
Bradley Stokes began his NHS career in 2010 as a domestic assistant at The James Cook University Hospital. Since then, he has worked in a variety of roles across both James Cook and North Tees, progressing through the organisation to become facilities service lead for NTH Solutions.
In his current role, Bradley oversees the day-to-day operation of portering, domestic and transport services across two hospital sites, helping to ensure services run smoothly for patients, visitors and staff.
Attendees will be able to learn more about non-clinical careers in the NHS, career progression opportunities and the vital role estates and facilities teams play in supporting patient care behind the scenes.
Bradley said: “What I love most about my role is that every day is different. It’s rewarding to see the impact these teams have on patient care, often behind the scenes, and the crucial role they play in delivering the best possible experience for our patients.”
Sophie Andelin and Georgia Walker, senior physiotherapists in critical care
After studying together at Teesside University, 24-year-old Sophie Andelin and 25-year-old Georgia Walker are now both senior physiotherapists on the critical care unit at the University Hospital of North Tees, helping patients recover from life-threatening illnesses and major surgery.
Neither originally planned a career in physiotherapy. Sophie discovered the profession at a university open day, while Georgia first learned about it through social media. Today, they support patients through some of the most challenging periods of their lives, helping them regain strength, independence and confidence.
Sophie said: “You get to see and support patients on their journey – from being critically unwell to getting up on their feet, and seeing how proud their families are. That is really rewarding.”
Georgia added: “Everyone working on the unit is so friendly and knowledgeable. You’re constantly learning and they’re all so willing to teach. I love it here.”
Attendees will be able to learn more about careers in physiotherapy, the different routes into the profession and what it’s like to work in a fast-paced critical care environment.
